Here’s a LITTLE MORE about Hernando County:

  • Jobs: In 2010, unemployment in Hernando County peaked at nearly 15%. As of February 2018, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported unemployment in the county at 4.8%. Many of the jobs in the county are in the medical field. In addition to the County’s three major hospitals, Bayfront Health Brooksville, Bayfront Health Spring Hill and Oak Hill Hospital, there are numerous clinics, labs and medical/health industry services located throughout the county. Non-medical employment in the County also consists of retail, education, hospitality, government and construction.
  • Schools: According to the Hernando County School District website, the County has ten elementary schools, three K-8 schools, four middle schools, five high schools, three charter schools and four specialty learning centers. Located also throughout the County are several private schools, including Notre Dame Catholic School and a host of Christian academies.
  • Transportation: Operating on week days, Hernando County Transit offers “The Bus.” It’s route basically encompasses a large portion of Commercial Way, to Route 50, to California Street to Spring Hill Drive. “The Bus” also travels Deltona Blvd and Mariner Blvd. Downtown Brooksville is very walkable, as are some areas of central Spring Hill around the commercial zone on Spring Hill and Mariner Drives.
  • Events: Hernando County hosts a variety of events throughout the year to include, but not limited to the following: Brooksville Raid Reenactment, Art in the Park, 3-day Greek Festival, Swamp Fest and Haunted Halloween tours at the Hernando Historical Museum. Numerous other festivities dot the events calendar throughout the year.
  • Real Estate: When it comes to purchasing a home, WHO doesn’t want to get the “Best Bang for the Buck”? Unlike areas to the south of Hernando County, the average sale price per square foot of living space in Hernando County is significantly lower than our southern neighbors. Even though the 2017 Hernando County “Total Yearly Sales Volume” for single family residences finished at almost a 15% increase over 2016, Hernando County is still very affordable, making it a “Great Place to Call Home”!
