I’ve occupied a seat in a theater, a booth in a restaurant, a berth on cruise ship and occasionally a lavatory on an airplane. I have occupied my time while waiting to do something else. In novels and newspapers I have read about occupied territories. And, I will admit, my mind sometimes has been preoccupied by other thoughts as I go about my daily routine. But until recently, the word “occupy” just hasn’t cropped up much. That’s all changed now because of the Occupy Wall Street movement, which this weekend will mark the 3-month anniversary of its encampment in Manhattan. Since then the movement has spread across nation and around the globe. I won’t pretend that I fully understand what all the fuss is about. Like most of you, I glean what I can from media reports. But I do recognize that this protest is fueled, at least in part, … Continue reading
Our logo says it all: The TEAM Works blog has always been about you. Nearly everything written here is aimed at making our readers better consumers as it relates to being more knowledgeable about buying, selling or improving their property. We believe informed consumers make informed choices, and we want to do our part to keep you informed. For the past 6 months we’ve shared useful consumer information about such varied topics as: how the stock market is affecting the local housing market; investor-savvy home improvements; how to communicate expertly with your REALTOR®; the sinkhole housing crisis; which smart phone apps are essential for buyers and sellers; the importance of sellers pet-prepping their homes; what sellers can learn from first-time offers; how to impress buyers with your garage; the potential pitfalls of social media; incentives sellers can offer buyers; the advantage of sellers dealing only with pre-qualified buyers; preparing your … Continue reading
We are in the process of adding and updating some consumer-friendly information on THE Gail Spada TEAM website. Every time we do this I am reminded once again that those of us who have lived here a while have a tendency to overlook some of the reasons we chose to make Hernando County our home. This truly is a great place to live and play, especially for those who enjoy a suburban lifestyle that also has easy access to metropolitan amenities and country comforts. On this stretch of Florida’s Nature Coast, one can play a round of golf in the morning, go horseback riding in a state park in the afternoon and still catch a concert or professional sports event that night. (If you have the energy!) A good number of the homes I market as a REALTOR® are located in golfing communities such as Silverthorn, Glen Lakes, Wellington and … Continue reading
It may not be ready to dance a jig just yet, but the home-selling industry in the Tampa Bay region is on its feet and feeling the rhythm of the beat. News came earlier this week that for the first time in almost 5 years, the median selling price of a single-family home in the Tampa Bay region either rose or held its own for a six-month period. That is the first time that has happened since 2006. In addition — and this is equally encouraging — the median sale price of a single-family home in the five-county region of Hernando, Citrus, Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties increased 18 percent, from $107,500 in January to $127,000 in June. You can read more details in this link to a story in the St. Petersburg Times by staff writer Mark Puente, but my take on it is this: After several years of … Continue reading
Thank you all for joining us today as we bid farewell to our very old friend, Open House. It wasn’t really so long ago that he was a vibrant part of our community. There was a time when he was respectable and dependable, a familiar face in our neighborhoods. But over the past 10 years or so we saw less and less of him. Rumor had it that he lost his reason to exist. There were a number of contributing factors leading up to Open House’s demise. For one, he no longer felt needed by his dearest friends, old-fashioned home sellers and unimaginative REALTORs®, both of whose days also are numbered. For another, Open House was hard to work with. He commanded a huge amount of time and energy. Vulnerable from suffering repeated rejections, frustrated home sellers and desperate REALTORs® often would turn to Open House to save the day. … Continue reading
